This December our class will be traveling to the Dominican Republic as part of our QU301 Seminar. Specifically, we will be living and working in a sugarcane village known as Batey 50, which is one of the poorest villages in the area. This community lacks basic education, healthcare, nutrition, housing and access to clean water while also struggling with racial and economic inequality. During class we will be learning about basic human rights as well as the cultural, economical, and political issues surrounding this community. During our travels we will be helping in the sugar cane fields, repairing homes, spending time with children in their schools, and many other projects. Follow our blog to keep up to date with our adventures!
